STATION BATTERIES

Used to power your switchgear, control cabinets, and other equipment, your station batteries are important to maintain because one battery failure could lead to total backup power failure.

A 2013 study on "Data Center Outages"  from the Ponemon Institute determined that UPS (uninterruptible power supply)  battery failure was the root cause of failure for 55% of the time among those surveyed.

WHAT DOES PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE CONSIST OF?

Safety

& Tooling

• Gloves

• Face Protection

• CellCorder

NFPA 110

We follow NFPA 110 regulations on battery maintenance. Check out specifics below.

Visual

& IR Scans

Making sure there are not any loose connections, excess heat, or strain on battery terminals.

Cleaning & Dusting

Dust & debris are conductors & can cause major problems within  a power system.

Check Components

Check terminals for corrosion, manufacturer errors, or loose connections.

Battery Readings

Each battery is tested and recorded so you can see it's actualbetter predict its lifespan.

NFPA110:2016

  – 8.3.6 – Schedule & Records

        • Is a permanent record of weekly inspections and monthly testing the storage batteries available?  (specific gravity or conductance)

– 8.3.6.1 – Schedule & Records

        • Maintenance of lead-acid batteries shall include monthly testing/recording of electrolyte specific gravity. Battery conductance testing shall be permitted in lieu of the testing of specific gravity when applicable warranted.
